The following is from Which Diapers are Right for You? Tereson Dupuy and FuzziBunz Diapers, posted 12/3/2012 on InventionStories.com.

Tereson Dupuy is the founder and owner of FuzziBunz Diapers, LLC and the inventor and patent holder for FuzziBunz® pocket-style cloth reusable diapers. She is often called the Mother of the Modern Cloth Diaper.

Determination

This determined mother-of-three invented FuzziBunz® diapers12 years ago because her son, Eden (show with Tereson above ) was suffering from chronic diaper rash. She tried every cloth and disposable diapering system on the market to no avail. After an exhaustive search, Tereson knew there had to be a better option and that’s when she invented the modern cloth diapers, now known as FuzziBunz®. Today, FuzziBunz® diapers are found in hundreds of online and in-store boutiques and have been used by millions of babies around the world!

Tereson is not only a mom, but also an entrepreneur and has received numerous recognitions for her invention. In 2006, Tereson was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business, an organization referred to as the business world’s Oscars. Tereson has been featured in the New York Times, CNBC’s The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, and The Sundance Channel’s Big Ideas for a Small Planet.

UPDATE

It’s been several years since our posting Which Diapers are Right for You? Tereson Dupuy and FuzziBunz Diapers, so I contacted Tereson and shared with her our desire to update her story. I asked her to answer the following questions:

I think it’s a sweet name…How did you come up with FuzziBunz?

Well, FuzziBunz are reusable diapers made from polar fleece (which is fuzzy) and they go next to a baby’s buns so….”Fuzzi Bunz” made sense. It would turn out to be quite catchy.

How have you marketed FuzziBunz?

There are many different ways we have marketed FuzziBunz. From grassroots efforts to boutique cloth diapering web-stores and now of course social media. The best marketing effort however has been a superior product. Word of mouth by other passionate moms has always given us the most success in marketing.

How did you go from FuzziBunz to INFANTC BRANDS?

FuzziBunz is my brand, however in 2015 I decided to expand the business. I have long been approached by other inventors asking me how I did this or that. They would often ask for advice in manufacturing, sales and marketing and just overall branding. Since I was already successful in all areas of branding my own baby product, I decided to do the same for other unique brands in the juvenile products space and that is exactly what I did. FuzziBunz is A brand that we represent, but are now doing brand management for others as well.

What advice would you give those interested in inventing?

My biggest pearl of wisdom is to seek help from those that have done it. I had to figure out how to do everything on my own and I ran into a lot of problems along the way that could have been avoided if I would have had even a little bit of guidance. On that note, I would not seek out help from any “inventors help” companies. Find an inventor such as myself that is willing to give advice or answer questions along the way. It could prove to be invaluable.

Inventing is not an easy process. Creating a successful product and business out of that invention is even more challenging. It takes a lot of tenacity, endurance and the willingness to never give up. I am proof positive of what can happen when you don’t give up!
