Invention Stories Podcast Update

Welcome to the Invention Stories Podcast Update. I’m the podcast host, Robert Bear, and thank you in advance for reading this.

This Tuesday, September 1, 2020, we will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary of launching the Invention Stories Podcast. My… how time flies.

The Invention Stories Podcast Episode 1

We shared Episode 1of the Invention Stories Podcast…Forbes Riley and SpinGym back on September 1st, 2017. Since then, our episodes have been listen to over 70,000 times.  I’m blown away by this and find it almost unimaginable to me. So first and foremost, thank you for listening, supporting, commenting, emailing us and for sharing the episodes.

Our First 100 Episodes

In our first 2 1/2 years,  we’ve shared the first 100 episodes and then took a 7-month break.  My mother passed away during this time off. I was fortunate to have spent a little extra time with her before her death.

When I shared her death on a Facebook post, many of you shared very sweet sentiments. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.  I have been fortunate to have been born to two parents who love me unconditionally, and try my best to become the person they would’ve wanted me to become.

The Last Episode I Listened to with My Mother

I’ll never forget the last time I listen to an episode of the Invention Stories Podcast with my mother.  She was from Massachusetts and missed the snow. We were driving her back from Lake Tahoe where it had been snowing so she could enjoy it one last time.

It was Episode 68, our interview with Angie Myers and her invention, My Buddy Towel. I chose that episode to listen to with her because my mom had five children and Angie had six. I’d believed my mom would identify with Angie’s children’s excessive towel use.  She did.

Dedication

I hereby dedicate the Invention Stories Podcast to the memory of my mom.

Interview Requests

Even though we were on hiatus, people continue to listen to our podcast episodes and the request for new interviews just kept coming in.

I believe I was in some sort of depressive state of mind or shock following the death of my mom when we began to work on the InventRight miniseries.  What  I learned is that when I started to work on the podcast, it was the only time I didn’t feel sad. It became my happy place.

I had previously reached out and spoke with both Stephen Key and Andrew Krauss about my idea of sharing the inventRight Mini-Series. I told them would like to interview both Stephen and Andrew, their coaches and students, and they agreed.

We only briefly discussed licensing on the Invention Stories Podcast during episode 59 with Keith Lawrence who had licensed his OUT Tool Fish Mouth Spreader.

Invention Stories Podcast Episode 101

We launched the inventRight Mini-Series with Episode 101…Dana Knowles and her invention the Hanging Shower Caddy. In it, Dana shares how she overcame drugs and alcohol dependency to license her Hanging Shower Caddy to Grand Fushion Housewares. The resonse we’ve received from this episode was incredibly positive. Thank you so much.

We’ve only really had one problem that I haven’t figured out how to solve and that is…we receive more requests for interviews then we have time to interview. We currently have over 90 inventors on our interview waitlist.

It’s a problem born out of success, a good problem to have, but it’s hard to tell somebody wanting to be interviewed to wait two years or more.

My Invention Story

We thought of this idea calling it My Invention Story. We expect to share it as a special episode this Tuesday.  We allow the inventor to share their invention story, from the time they have the idea to wherever they are today.  Then I would ask a couple of follow up questions.

It’s just a different style of interviewing…a bit shorter. It’s a different type of interview than what we normally share and would like your feedback.  Is it a good idea? How can we improve it? Should be abandoned it? We invite you to email us your thoughts at inventionstoriespodcast@gmail.com.

Thank you for much for reading this and please…tell a friend.
