We begin our interview with invention expert Louis Foreman, as he shares how he began his first business out of his dorm room in college…selling lacrosse equipment. He fell in love with entrepreneurship right off the back and made money. Made me wonder why his coach didn’t go into selling the equipment. Louis Foreman and Nascar Inventing

Following college, Louis Foreman moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to focus entirely on Nascar where he was so early in the licensing of the sport…growing to over 20 million in sales per year. For those who don’t know, it’s very expensive sport to build the cars and to travel to the races and sponsorship has always been used. The apparel was just another revenue stream for the sport…and Louis was there.

Louis built his business, grew the sales and then sold out to begin his inventing career.

After selling his business and taking time off, Louis started teaching, and at the end of 1998 Louis caught the inventing bug. He began developing and licensing products and that led him to where he is today.

Louis Foreman

These are the podcast show notes from Episode 27, our interview with Louis Foreman.  He created Enventys, an intergrated product design and engineering firm.  Louis is also the founder and CEO of Edison Nation.  This episode is the first in a three-part series.  I’m really excited to share these interview notes with you because Louis has truly helped people invent smarter.

Starting a Business in College

Louis Forman’s interest in starting businesses and developing innovative products began when he was a sophomore in college in Illinois.  He started his first business right out of his dorm room.  He has created nine successful start up’s.  Louis has been directly responsible for the creation of 20 others.  He has filed and received 10 US registered patents.   His firm is responsible for developing over 700 more.

Everyday Edisons

Louis Foreman has also created the Emmy award-winning PBS TV show Everyday Edisons…which shares the invention process in action.  I highly recommend to everyone interested in learning about inventing to watch. Louis Foreman is the publisher of the Inventors Digest.    In 2009,  he published the Independent Inventor’s Handbook, a great book to read for anyone interested in inventing.
