Exercise Anywhere with FlyteBike
Do you sit for a living? Most Americans sit over 9 hours a day, causing health problems like weight gain, back pain, heart disease and diabetes. Adding insult to injury, studies from Mayo Clinic, (NEAT Certified. NEAT™ stands for the science of Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis, developed by Mayo Clinic), Blue Zones and Harvard show you lose 20 minutes of life for every hour you just sit there. Why not exercise anywhere or better yet exercise everywhere? Exercise Anywhere with Flytebike.
Feel better, lose weight, live longer by pedaling anytime anywhere – at work, at home, when you travel, even on long flights with FlyteBike Portable Pedals. FlyteBike is a breakthrough sitting solution. At only 3.5 lbs, it folds flat and goes anywhere with you in its bag, so you can fit in your fitness right from your seat: at work, home, on the go, anywhere!
After reading the above paragraph on the FlyteBike Indiegogo campaign page, I realized that I sit a lot and it seems like a no-brainer that this product could help me. I want to live a longer, healthier life and I’m sure most who spend long periods of time sitting do too.
Serial Inventor, Founder & Entrepreneur, Robin Palmer starred in Broadway musicals for 15 years as Robin Boudreau. She played Linda Ronstadt’s sister in The Pirates of Penzance, co-starred with David Cassidy in Joseph… & sang Memory in CATS. I contacted Robin Palmer, the inventor of FlyteBike and asked her the following questions:
What gave you the idea for FlyteBike?
Sitting is for long periods of time is really bad for people, especially sitting on planes where cabin pressure restricts the oxygen flow and I fly a lot. Blood clots affect 900,000 Americans and kill 160,000 of them every year and flying is a leading cause.
When I fly, usually about the four-hour mark I always get this urge to get up and move my body. On a flight one day I start thinking they don’t want me to get up and move around. How can I get my blood flowing while still sitting in my seat? I imagine that pedaling could be the best solution to get the blood flowing through my extremities.
So I began researching my idea and learned that sitting is the new smoking. Research from the Mayo Clinic, Harvard, and Blue Zones state that you lose 20 minutes of your life for every hour you just sit. When you get blood flowing to your brain and body you actually think clearer, feel better and as it turns out you live longer.
FlyteBike would need to be portable to work, that way people could exercise anywhere they are (at work or home, on trains, planes, cruises etc). I believe my invention could save lives and have people feeling better. FlyteBike will help people reduce weight gain which relieves pressure on their backs. Better blood flow to the users brain will result in them functioning better.
There are stationary pedals but nothing that’s completely portable. FlyteBike is made of a lightweight aluminum while my competitors all use heavy steel. The steel rod in their pedals heat up and burn the user because steel actually conducts heat. My FlyteBike is patent pending for its portability and is intended to be used on planes, exercise anywhere and unlike my competitors products doesn’t heat up. FlyteBike comes an IOT (internet of things) option, so it’s a smart pedal. You’re able to track your progress on our app.
How was the prototype process?
My first invention is My Wake UP Call® Motivational Alarm Clock® Messages, My Daily Inspirations™ and My Good Night Messages™ but is my first hardware invention and it’s taken about a year.
What advice would you give an inventor or someone interested in inventing?
You have to have so much tenacity especially women inventors. 3% of women owned companies get funded because 3% of VC’s and angel investors are women. You have to have so much tenacity …beyond the word tenacity.
